Imagine the fictional place of Milton in BBC’s ‘North and South’ by Elizabeth Gaskell starring Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe. That is how I imagine Seven Dials would look like! An environment where it is filthy and polluted. Children out on the streets begging or stealing, while their exploiters sit around and let said children do their dirty work for them. Marlowe is one of those children trained to be an expert snitch. Born to an aristocratic family but was taken, and have lived the life of a thief ever since. She had been through a lot of physical abuse from her captor who ruled with an iron first, but she rose above it all and proved herself valuable. But everything is about to change in Marlowe’s life when a bust had gone wrong, and landed her in Dane’s carriage.
Dane was not happy to be one of his brother’s unsuspecting accomplice. He was not prepared for Brook to kidnap a woman hell-bent in doing more damage than any man could have done. He was also not prepared to meet a woman who will change his world upside and down, and enjoy it!
The story was well crafted and I had fun reading it. Although I have doubts in the accuracy of the morals, manners, language, and behavior of people in that time period it was a joy to read! Just a right amount of humor, suspense, and spice to have you wanting more. To me it was an adventure to read Marlowe’s life, and would love to read more of her story in the next series.
I do wonder of Gideon though. Will he ever find true love?
